WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO

We know that, at times, life can be a challenge for children, staff and parents alike, so at Ysgol Melyd we aim to offer a safe haven, a listening ear and a compassionate approach to all members of our school community. We all have the opportunity to grow and develop if we are nurtured, respected and guided in a positive and considerate way. The Ysgol Melyd way!

We recognise the unique abilities and talents in all of us. Together, these talents make us a stronger learning community. We support all learners, regardless of their ability or disability. We strive for equity in our learning and pastoral provision.

...develop independence and resilience.
...develop social skills and make social connection.
...gain confidence and ambition.
...broaden horizons, shape their own identify and respect the identity, cultures and beliefs of others.
...share achievements and celebrate the achievements of others.
...prepare for a bright future.

All in our community are valued both as individuals and also for the part they play in our wider collective effort. Children at Ysgol Melyd are taught to take pride in their identity, embrace and celebrate Welsh culture and use Cymraeg as much as possible. We have a distinctly Welsh identity whilst also welcoming the diversity within our local community and the wider-world. Our Ysgol Melyd learning community is outward looking and open-minded.

Care and support: Children who feel safe are able to learn better. We actively work to improve the wellbeing of all members of our school community. Challenge and ambition: We aim to offer all children a rich and relevant learning experience, a safe place where successes are celebrated and mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn. We assess learning regularly, shape our teaching for the needs of learners, provide timely guidance and expect all learners to aspire to improve. Collaboration and partnership: We work together with parents, our wider community, external organisations and other schools to improve what we do and help others to improve.

We aim to model the behaviours we wish to see in our learners. Just as we expect children to work together, share their successes and collaborate to overcome challenges then that is what we need to do too. We work openly and honestly with parents, families, other organisations to promote the best interests of our learners. We collaborate regularly with our sister schools in the Learn Prestatyn cluster to raise standards and promote the wellbeing of our learners as they follow their learning journey.
